The investigation into the armed robbery of a St. Charles store ended with two arrests on Wednesday, St. Charles police said.
Rayshawn Vonperbandt, 20, was picked up by police during an unrelated traffic stop in the 200 block of North Fifth Avenue. Jacob Fahey, 20, was taken into custody at his home in the 500 block of South 12th Avenue, police said.
Both men were charged with armed robbery.
Police said Vonperbandt was taken into custody without incident, but Fahey fought with officers as they attempted to take him into custody outside his home.
In addition to armed robbery, Fahey was charged with felony battery to a peace officer, and obstructing a peace officer, police said.
The Jan. 4 robbery occurred around 6:27 p.m. at the Tobacco and Gift Store, located in the 1500 block of East Main Street.
Police said two men entered the store and approached a locked display case. The men attempted to force the case open, and when they couldn’t they pulled out a knife and a handgun and demanded the keys from the victim.
The victim’s cell phone was also taken as he attempted to call 911, police said.
Police said the suspects, identified later as Vonperbandt and Fahey, then took items from the display case and ran away.
Fahey’s bail was set at $130,000 on Thursday. Vonperbandt’s bail was set at $100,000 police said.
