A man who fought with several Yorkville police officers in 2012 has been sentenced to five years in prison for beating, biting, spitting on and threatening to kill the officers.
Jeffery Brewick, 45, was charged with multiple counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer following a fight with several Yorkville officers and Kendall County Sheriff’s deputies who responded to a domestic battery call on Oct. 17, 2012.
“Here was the perfect storm,” Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis said about the situation. “These officers and deputies had to confront a violent individual, who was believed to be under the influence, and were physically attacked. ”
Weis said Brewick was inside the home throwing furniture and verbally abusing a woman when law enforcement arrived.
During the incident, a frightened, crying child let officers into the home where he told police someone was upstairs “breaking everything,” and “hurting someone,” Weis said.
Officers confronted Brewick, who violently lashed out at them.
Weis said Brewick told officers to get out of the house and began to struggle with officers who attempted to place him under arrest.
Brewick told the officers that he was going to kill them on multiple occasions, Weis said.
As the fight escalated, Brewick became angrier, Weis said. He punched a deputy in the face, and threw another against the wall.
Then, Weis said Brewick kicked an officer’s knee so hard that it required surgery.
During the fight, Brewick kicked, punched, bit and spit on several officers and deputies, Weis said.
He was convicted of aggravated battery to a peace officer and sentenced to five years in prison. He will also serve two years of mandatory supervised release.
“These officers and deputies put their lives on the line every day in the course of their duties,” he said. “Too often, they are confronted with violent situations as a result of alcohol or drugs use as well as domestic abuse.”
