A Naperville grandmother was charged with stealing hundreds of dollars worth of jewelry and perfume on Wednesday, with her granddaughter by her side, Aurora police said.
Geraldine Fowlkes, 56, allegedly shoved the merchandise in her clothing and purse while shopping with the 8-year-old around 6:30 p.m. in the 0-99 block of Fox Valley Center Drive, according to police reports.
Police said loss prevention employees stopped Fowlkes as she was leaving a department store, and questioned her about items she had been witnessed taking. Aurora police arrived at the store and arrested Fowlkes for theft.
The child was picked up at the store by a family member. As the girl left, police said Fowlkes allegedly handed the girl a tote that contained some of her belongings. Inside the bag were three perfume box sets that the woman had also allegedly stolen, police said.
Fowlkes has been charged with two counts of felony theft.
