Aurora police said a 20-year-old man left the scene of a crash and hid his drug stash near an Aurora daycare center Monday morning.
According to police reports, it was around 10:13 a.m. when officers were called to Meadow Lakes Boulevard and Prairie Lake Court for reports of a single-car crash.
Armando Cazares Jr., 3000 block of Dorothy Drive, Aurora, allegedly lost control of his vehicle, which then jumped a median and crashed into a light pole, police said.
The pole came loose from its base and slammed down onto Cazares vehicle. He received minor injuries.
While they were on the way, police learned that the vehicle’s driver, later identified as Cazares, had walked away from the scene.
When officers followed Cazares’ footprints in the snow, they said they were led to a fence line near a daycare center in the 400 block of Shoreline Drive.
Police found a white plastic bag where the footprints stopped, they said. Inside the bag, police allegedly found cocaine, marijuana and four pills identified as a controlled substance.
Police said the bag contained 61 grams of cocaine and 77 grams of marijuana.
Cazares, who was walking back to the scene when police arrived, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, felony manufacturing/delivering a controlled substance, and felony possession of marijuana. He was also charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said.
