An Aurora man was charged with drug possession after he was stopped by police Wednesday.

Aurora police said they spotted Juan Galvan, 22, 0-99 block of Grace Street, walking near a home in the 300 block of West Illinois around 9 p.m. Wednesday. Because the home was the scene of a 12:30 a.m. shooting, police said they felt suspicious about Galvan’s presence in the area.

According to police reports, Galvan was not dressed for the weather. When he saw police, he allegedly lifted his shirt to show he wasn’t carrying a gun in his waistband.

Officer pulled next to Galvan and asked if he was OK. He said he was, and provided police with his name and birthday.

Galvan was allowed to walk away, but was eventually stopped again near Illinois Avenue and Grand Avenue after police learned he was currently on parole for a weapons charge conviction.

Because of his status on parole, officers searched Galvan, who allegedly began to resist. During the brief struggle, police said a glove containing 11 plastic baggies fell from Galvan’s hand.

Galvan allegedly told police that the white, powdery substance inside the baggies was Ecstasy, and that it was for his own use.

Galvan was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and placed under arrest, police said.
