Five juveniles and one adult have been charged in connection with several recent residential and vehicle burglaries across Aurora’s East Side.
The juveniles were all arrested Tuesday and are accused of burglarizing homes in the 600 block of Alyce Lane and in the 900 blocks of Front and Mountain Streets. All are currently in the Kane County Youth Home.
Police are crediting an alert resident as being instrumental in helping them catch a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old from Aurora, who were charged in the Alyce Lane burglary. At about 11:10 a.m., the resident called police when she saw four males acting suspiciously in the area. One of the responding police officers stopped a car based on information from the witness and the two juveniles now in custody ran away. Assisting officers quickly took the two into custody without incident, however, the other two suspects left the scene in the car.
The juveniles were each charged with single counts of residential burglary and felony theft. Police have leads into the identities of the other two subjects who fled the area.
Then, at around noon Tuesday, an Aurora police patrol officer came across three juveniles around Smith and Liberty streets. Thinking they should be in school, the officer questioned the three who immediately began to act nervous and give answers that didn’t make sense, police said.
When the officer took the three, a 16-year-old girl, a 17-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, into custody for truancy, he searched them and found about $2,000 in cash, jewelry and electronics in their possession.
At around 2 p.m., police received calls from residents on Front and Mountain saying their homes had been burglarized while they were at work. When officers showed pictures of the items taken off the three juveniles to the burglary victims, they identified them as being theirs. All three of the juveniles were each charged with two counts of residential burglary.
On Nov. 7, police secured charges on Kenneth D. Loyd, 18, of the 200 block of Hidden Pond Circle, Aurora, in connection with several Far East side vehicle burglaries.
