Police say driver tried to run away from Aurora crash

Fernando Rubio, 51, 300 block of Old Indian Trail, Aurora, was charged with drunken driving after he allegedly fled the scene of an Aurora crash Sunday evening, police said.

According to police, Rubio’s vehicle struck another vehicle near Lake Street and Illinois Avenue around 7:58 p.m. Witnesses said Rubio fled the scene, driving at speeds between 80 and 90 mph. Witnesses also said Rubio was driving recklessly, swerving in and out of traffic, and had driven onto a median during his attempt to escape from the area.

The crash victim followed Rubio, who eventually stopped his vehicle in the road near Old Indian Trail and North Lake Street, police said.

When officers arrived, about five people were near Rubio’s vehicle fighting. The victim said Rubio attempted to run from the scene, but had been chased and stopped prior to police arriving.

Rubio was charged with drunken driving, reckless driving, improper parking, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Aurora

Barbara Clayton, 53, 700 block of Strawberry Court, Aurora, was charged with drunken driving and failure to signal at 10:55 a.m. Sunday at her home, police said.

Jonni Romano, 26, 500 block of Smith Boulevard, Aurora, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, no licence, no insurance, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, and illegal transportation of alcohol at 9:27 p.m. Saturday near Grove Street and Beckwith Street, police said.

Jose Jimenez, 35, 400 block of Flagg Street, Aurora, was charged with drunken driving, driving on a suspended/revoked license and improper lane usage at 12:57 a.m. Sunday near South Lincoln Avenue and East Benton Street, police said.

Mark Foster, 51, 1300 block of Grand Boulevard, was charged with felony domestic battery and two counts of misdemeanor domestic battery around 9:30 p.m. Friday at his home, police said.

Someone stole tools, worth $4,400, sometime between midnight and 8 a.m. Sunday from a vehicle parked in the 100 block of South Western Avenue, police said. The suspect broke a window to gain entry to the vehicle.

One person was injured around 6 a.m. Saturday after a vehicle slid on an icy roadway near Bilter Road and Charter Oak Drive, police said. The vehicle struck a shrub and a fire hydrant after sliding on some ice. The crash caused the vehicle to roll multiple times, and land upside down in a ditch. The driver was able to crawl out of the vehicle, and was transported to an Aurora hospital for treatment, police said.

Kendall County

Rylie Olson, 20, 600 block of Beachview Lane, Somonauk, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after she lost control of her vehicle around 1:55 p.m. Friday in the 150000 block of Millhurst Road in Plano, deputies said. Deputies said Olson drove off the road and into a ditch, causing her vehicle to roll. A witness to the crash took Olson to an area hospital for treatment, police said.

Patrick Barkdoll, 23, 4100 block of Foli Street, Plano, was charged with drunken driving, providing false information, failure to reduce speed and expired registration at 11:29 p.m. Friday near Route 126 and Schlapp Road, deputies said.

Montgomery

David Verastique, 33, 400 block of Woodlawn Avenue, Aurora, was charged with drunken driving, possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal transportation of alcohol at 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Route 31, police said. Verastique was stopped by police for driving with one headlight and on a flat tire.

Tools, worth $2,000, were stolen sometime before 11 a.m. Thursday from inside a home in the 1300 block of Talma Street, police said.

Oswego

Perla Gaytan, 22, 100 block of Main Street, Sugar Grove, was charged with drunken driving and illegal transportation of alcohol at 3:30 a.m. Sunday near Route 34 and Ogden Falls Boulevard, police said.
