Two men were charged with drunken driving after they were found asleep inside their vehicles at Aurora fast-food restaurants this weekend, including one sleeping in his car in a drive-through lane.
Aurora police were called by McDonald’s employees around 10 p.m. Saturday for a report of a vehicle in the drive-through lane that had not moved in 10 minutes.
The driver was not responding to employees, and appeared to have fallen asleep, police said.
When officers arrived at the restaurant on the 100 block of North Lake Street they found Tarale Evans, 33, 900 block of Autumn Lane, Aurora, asleep inside his running vehicle.
Police said Evans’ car was in drive, and that he had almost struck the restaurant’s menu board with his vehicle.
Officers banged on Evans’ window several times in an attempt to wake him, but had no success. They opened the vehicle’s driver side door and shook Evans awake, they said.
Inside the car, officers found an open bottle of liquor in the front seat. Evans appeared disoriented, they said.
After running Evans’ information, police found out he had a suspended license for two prior drunken driving convictions.
He was charged with drunken driving, driving on a suspended license and illegal transportation of liquor, police said.
Also on Saturday, around 3:34 a.m., officers were called by Wendy’s restaurant employees about a suspicious vehicle.
Employees said the car was running, but the driver appeared to be asleep.
Police responded to the restaurant in the 800 block of North Lake Street, and found Richardo Barajas, 20, passed out behind the wheel of his car. An open can of beer was in plain view when officers arrived, police said.
As they attempted to get Barajas to step out of his vehicle, police said Barajas, 100 block of North Loucks Street, refused.
He went to put the vehicle in drive before police were able to get him out of the car, police said. Barajas was placed under arrest and charged with drunken driving, resisting a peace officer and consumption of alcohol by a minor.
