An 18-year-old man was charged with allegedly stealing a car during a traffic stop late last week in Aurora.

Aurora police said Dequan Gayden, 100 block of South Fourth Street, was found driving the stolen Honda Accord around 4:30 p.m. Friday during a traffic stop in the 100 block of North Fourth Street.

Gayden was stopped for not using his turn signal when officers realized his license was suspended/revoked. A check of the vehicle’s registration showed the car had been reported stolen.

The vehicle’s owner said that sometime between 2 p.m. Thursday and 12:05 a.m. Friday the car, worth $1,000, was stolen while it was parked in the 700 block of East Downer Place.

During the traffic stop, police said Gayden provided officers with a false name.

Gayden was charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle, criminal trespass to a vehicle, obstruction of justice, improper use of a turn signal, and driving on a suspended license.
