A fatal St. Charles crash ended in drunken driving charges against a 23-year-old man after he struck a vehicle head-on Friday afternoon.
St. Charles police responded to North 2nd Street and Timbers Trail around 2:05 p.m. for reports of the crash.
Police said Joshua Spudich, 400 block of 2nd Street, St. Charles, was driving southbound on 2nd Street in his 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe when he crossed a median and drove into oncoming traffic.
Spudich’s vehicle crashed head-on into a 2004 Toyota Corolla driven by 65-year-old Susan Gorecki, 0-99 block of Green Willow Lane, St. Charles.
According to police, Spudich was treated and released on the scene, then later transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
Gorecki died as a result of the crash.
North 2nd Street was closed to southbound traffic until 6 p.m., police said.
Spudich was charged with four counts of felony drunken driving, driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a controlled substance, driving on a revoked license, and improper lane usage.
