Two men were charged after police were called to an Aurora home for a fight that had broken out early in the morning on New Year’s Day.
Joseph C. Rush, 24, 400 block North River Street, Aurora, was charged with felony aggravated battery of a peace officer.
Jordan O. Handley, 27, 400 block Mallview Lane, Bolingbrook, was charged with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor possession of marijuana between 2.5 and 10 grams.
The two men were arrested Thursday at 1:45 a.m. in the 1000 block of West New York Street.
Officers arrived at a home on West New York Street after receiving a call of a large fight where some people were armed with guns.
Police saw some people running when they arrived, including Rush, who according to police reports fled to a car. The police officers asked Rush to get out but he refused, a report states. Both Rush and Handley, who police say was sitting in the driver’s seat of the car, screamed at police, according to reports.
After asking Rush to exit the car multiple times, officers attempted to pull him out, but he twisted away, police said. According to the police report, he also grabbed the car door and slammed it on one of the responding officers.
Officers eventually got both Rush and Handley out of the car and arrested them.
Inside the home, where a witness said a party had gotten out of hand, officers said they found broken bottles, smashed beds, turned over tables and cracked tile on the floor.
