An Aurora mother was caught allegedly stealing baby clothes and toys while shopping with her daughter on Saturday, police said.
Lori Serrano, 40, 200 block of North View Street, Aurora, was shopping with her daughter and two men at a store in the 2100 block of West Galena Boulevard around 3:09 p.m. when the theft allegedly occurred.
A store employee told police he recognized Serrano when she entered the store because he had suspected her of shoplifting from a store where he previously worked.
The employee said he kept an eye on Serrano, who was seen putting baby clothes into a pink tote bag.
According to police, Serrano entered a self-checkout lane and payed for a number of items in her cart. Serrano allegedly never opened the pink tote to pay for the merchandise inside, police said.
Serrano was questioned by security, and told employees that she forgot about the clothing inside the tote. She told security that she never intended to steal the items.
Police reviewed surveillance footage and determined that during her transaction, Serrano also allegedly switched the price tags on two toys to reflect a price of $9.91, instead of $44.97.
Serrano was charged with felony retail theft.
