Two Thursday night shootings left two men injured in Aurora, police said.

The first incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. near Benton Street and Smith Street where shots were fired at a vehicle driven by a 61-year-old man.

Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said the driver and his 28-year-old passenger were not injured.

According to the victims, an older, white Buick pulled up behind their vehicle, and a man in dark clothing got out and fired one shot in the victims’ direction. The vehicle was struck, but neither victim was injured.

Ferrelli said the suspect was described as a black man, around 5 feet 10 inches tall, 190 pounds. He was wearing all dark clothing.

Later Thursday evening, around 11:53 p.m., a group of people were standing in a backyard in the 700 block of East New York Street when they were fired upon. Two men, ages 18 and 19, were struck by bullets. Ferrelli said one victim was hit in each leg. The second victim was struck in the shoulder.

According to police, several people inside a Chevrolet Trailblazer pulled up into an alley near where the victims were gathered. A man, dressed in dark clothing, got out of the car and approached the group.

Ferrelli said the suspect shouted some gang-related slogans, pulled out a handgun, and fired multiple times toward the group of victims. Two men and three vehicles were struck by gunfire.

According to the victims, the suspect, described as a Hispanic male, about 18 years old, 5 feet 2 inches tall, 180 pounds, got back into the Trailblazer and drove away.

Anyone with information on the shootings is asked to call Aurora police investigators at 630-256-5500.
