Bond for a Naperville woman accused of stealing more than $50,000 from Waubonsie Valley High School has ben set at $30,000, according to the office of DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin,
A press release from the state’s attorney’s office said Kristy Davis, 48, appeared in Bond Court Sunday where Judge Robert Miller set bond at $30,000 with 10% to apply. She has been charged with one count of Theft over $10,000, a Class 1 Felony.
Davis was employed by Aramark and works as the Cafeteria Manager at the high school. As manager, Davis is responsible for making the daily deposits. Davis allegedly stole the cash before making the deposit. It is alleged that at times Davis also would steal cash and checks and then use the stolen checks on a subsequent deposit to make up for missing cash so that the deposit would appear accurate, the release said.
The alleged thefts occurred from October 3, 2013 through May 23, 2014. She was taken into custody without incident Friday by the Aurora Police Department, according to the release
“The very idea that someone would steal money from a school, particularly when schools across the state are facing serious funding challenges, is outrageous,” Berlin said in the release. “The allegations against Ms. Davis are very serious and will be met with the full force of the law. I would like to thank the authorities at Waubonsie Valley High School for their complete cooperation as well as the Aurora Police Department for uncovering Ms. Davis’ alleged scheme. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Diane Michalak for her efforts in this case.”
Davis’ next court appearance is scheduled for December 28 for arraignment in front of Judge Robert Kleeman.
The complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, the release said.
