An Aurora man was sentenced to five years in prison for stealing $475 worth of cigarettes from an Oswego gas station last year.
Kenneth Ireland, 25, was convicted of burglary following an investigation into Newport cigarettes that went missing from the Murphy USA gas station, 2300 block of Route 34.
According to Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis, in August 2013 employees doing an inventory check noticed the cigarettes were missing and called police.
Police reviewed surveillance footage from the day prior and saw a man enter a storage room and steal the cigarettes.
Oswego Police investigators were able to identify Ireland as the man in the video. He was subsequently charged and convicted.
In addition to his five-year sentence, Ireland will serve two years of mandatory supervised release for his Class 2 felony burglary conviction.
