Aurora police allegedly interrupted a Maple Park man’s drug run Saturday night and charged him with having three rocks of crack cocaine in his pants pocket.

According to Aurora police, officers were on patrol in the 400 block of North River Street around 8:30 p.m. when they saw Erick Johnson, 43, drive through a red light.

Police stopped Johnson, who was unable to provide proof of insurance.  As the officer walked back to his squad car to fill out paperwork, he said he noticed Johnson move a bag from the passenger seat to underneath the dashboard.

When the officer returned, he inquired about the bag. Police said Johnson alluded to the fact that he was on his way to buy some drugs when he was pulled over.

Johnson was placed under arrest for no insurance, and also taken into custody on a Kane County felony theft warrant.

During a search of Johnson, officers allegedly found what they determined to be three rocks of crack cocaine inside his pants pocket. The drugs weighed 1.1 grams, police said.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of felony possession of a controlled substance.

Johnson was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police found a glass pipe in his vehicle.
